clare dragoon, carrigaholt, 3/6/11

#1 Post by jw »

People: romofa helmut brendan john jw

Duration: 0900-1700

Tide: spring

Weather: no wind, sea fog

Bait: fresh mac

Rigs: baited feathers

Results: mac, launce, ballan, cuckoo, coalie pollack ling, haddock, whiting, red and grey gurnard, poor cod, pouting and spur dog

Report: this area has not seen any fishing in a while and the ground is solid with fish.
away from the reefy ground, one or two spur dogs are being caught each trip mixed in
with the haddock and red gurnards. the reefs are solid with pollack around 5 or 6 pound
i tried to send down a trace full of jewelry for the ling, the pollack still grabbed it.
someone even caught a pollack on a sidewinder shad and a wire boom

Nice mix of fish in the first picture JW and a great result overall well done,
I was down there on Friday afternoon on board a boat called “Oilean Mhuire” you might have seen it moored at the inner pier,

I travelled the whole way down from limerick on it, it was a great trip down and we got to Carrigaholt in 2.5 hours,
The fog hit us late afternoon so we stayed just back from the head in case it got too heavy

Well done again Lads

mann we had fog all day, kind of weird knowing you were 30 yards from loop head and not
able to see it!

sometimes i wonder whether flashing spoons are as effective in water over 200 feet
as maybe there is less light down there to reflect, brendan got the best ling around 15lbs
on a big white muppet
