I did a couple of years ago. A few very small flats and that was it. Hadn't the best bait and tackle at the time (borrowed from a mate) though, so would be worth a try, IMHO.
Midday, cloudy, calm, half-tide, filling. Mid summer. Vicious hangover, not sure if that was really a factor. But the Guinness was good in Ardglass the night before, if it's of any information value.
Plenty of really small flats to be seen in the water though. Beach looked promising.
Darned if I can remember the name but it's up above the town - has a bit of a restaurant thing going. Might have been the Lighthouse - up above the town on the Ballyhornan side? Like I mentioned earlier, was warped coming out of it. A friend who recommended it was similarly affected. Good seafood, I've just remembered. More will probably come back to me with time....
I think the mate referred to it as 'the lights'. Could be wrong.... Think there was a ruddy great castle across the road from it. (Assume my definition of 'across' to have been heavily coloured by porter....)
I was told that the rocks at the back of the golf course would have been a better bet as regards the possibility of actually connecting to fish, but IMHO, if you're not casting off a beach, you're not fishing.....
(spent too many years catching pollock and wrasse off the rocks - the fun has gone out of it.....takes me a week every year to find the latest killer lure, then it's like shooting fish in barrel, if you'll pardon the pun - no challenge left.)
fish there dont like it a lot of seal there they come up look whos on the shore and head down to the botom then they wait ontil a fish come its easy pickings for them.
Every harbour will have a pile of seals knocking about - they learn to follow the boats in and out and mooch about the entrance in between times for any easy pickings. That's why I head for the beaches - less of them about. You ought to come to Donegal. I'll show you a real seal problem. I should probably be running package holiday hunting trips for eskimos....
