A bad day fishing is better than a good day at the office!

Good to see this tread is running again, always a good starting point on this web site to wet the appetite for a trip to the coast or even to fill the kitchen full of powerfull aroma

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Heard roumours of fish spotted breaking off Garryvoe beach, so im assuming that they were mackeral.
A few friends of mine tried Ballycotton pier the next day but no joy.
Havent heard of mackeral breaking off the beach in a long time so hopefully its a sign that there is gonna ba a lot of them around this year!

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
Fenit Bridge up to a week ago were being caught in big numbers, 20 to 30 and up to 40 a session, gone now as weather changed but after the spring tide it could produce good sessions again. Point in Kerry head if would chance it. Massive numbers anything up to 100 per session and double this on a good evening, Bad road and very very dangerous turns people off
The finest gift you can give a fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who knows if the fish that you caught isn't someone else's gift to you?"

Out on ballycotton pier last week bait fishing. There were a good few fluff chuckers along the wall but all they had were small pollack/coalies. No mack in sight yet.

Re: Mackerel Reports '11 here...
I caught 8 mackerel this evening from a rock mark in Bantry Bay. I tried feathers for a half hour without a touch so I put on a two hook flapper to try for some flatties. I caught 2 mackerel on the first cast, one on razor the other on frozen mackerel. I switched back to feathers and caught 5 more over the next half hour. Just before the tide turned I put the 2 hook trace back on and on the next cast I had a dogfish on the frozen mackerel and another mackerel on the razor.

Zippo mackerel at Dun Laoghaire (end of west pier) on a tide rising into the sunset using black and pink feathers. Was out for about an hour. Saw gannets diving and a lad jig a pollack close to the wall. So, no mackerel north of Bray yet this year on the east coast?
