Wicklow beach 12/05/11

#1 Post by Al »

People:Myself and Gar

Duration:19.30-23.30

Tide:dropping

Weather:Wsw, calm sea

Bait:rag, sandeel, crab, mac

Rigs:Loop rigs, flappers

Results:Doggies, Flounder, and pup hounds

Report:
Decided to head out as the weather looked like it should flatten off the sea. Raided the freezer and hit the road, Straight away we were into dogs which I was expecting and also happy with   dogs were consistent enough and gar had two small pup hounds early on and a flounder scratching in the suds. As dusk approached I decided to see if any bigger hounds were around and put out the loop rig with crab and rag, ended up with a double of pup hounds...not what I was after but different to the dogs all the same. We both had a few more dogs and another one or two pups showed up for us. Enjoyable night without wind and rain in the face and a few fish on the cards too!

There were a few more lads either side of us but dont know how they got on.

On another note, yet again rubbish was a problem on the beach...brought what I could back but couldn't get everything. Cheers to whoever left a tesco bag with rotten bait, empty redbull cans and also the bait trays around the place. Terrible to see this beach turning into a tip and nearly all the rubbish is fishing related!

Sounds like a great one,
love catching doggies but never really catch more than one.
Pity about the rubbish, a month or 2 back we tried a place up north and it was so bad I was tripping over line we gave it a few casts and moved on, people sometimes pick up bags cardboard etc but are ever so happy to leave 40 metres of line around the place.

Well done on the fishing al. I've been getting hauls like that for the last 4-5 times I've fished them two beaches

It's the same each week on both them beaches, no matter how much rubbish u take off it, the week later u go back it's the same! Line, rigs, beer cans and general food rubbish, chrisps choc wrappers etc, Oh and my favourite, newspapers with live bait still in it!

I am tired off cleaning it and really want to catch the group who are doing it in the act!

Hi all, people who read all the forum posts already know that i'm new to this beachcasting area of the fishing sport.
Thanks to the dedication of Paul who met me late enough last night when he had other things to be doing, I am now the proud owner of a Ian golds Extractor, Surf 8000 reel, tripod and a few other essentials. I already spent a lot of time preparing rigs etc and now think that i'm ready to drown a worm or two.

But,,, When i read this type of report it really makes me worry if and how I can be allowed REALLY into the sport as the location of fishing marks are regularly kept secret from the forum members which I understand to a point but that doesn't help me. I have done other types of fishing before and always practice catch and release, use a disgorger unhooking mat etc.

Its a real pity that with the miles of coastline that we have and the limited amount of shore anglers that this low population island has compared to some countrys that he have to protect our fishing marks to this level.

Thanks.

Hi mech that's life you get to hear about some marks others you don't. Internet forums are like that plus not everyone likes telling people of their whereabouts all the time and why should they?

Keep reading the reports and in a few weeks you'll know all the secret spots :D

Ohh and stop complaining too, that won't help you find them.

Regards.
