Princeton Tec - Apex 3 Watt led headlamp or Apex 130 ??

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Princeton Tec - Apex 3 Watt led headlamp or Apex 130 ??

#1 Post by JOHN LYNCH »

I had the origional 60 lumen princeton Tec headlanp running off the 4 AA batteries a few years back but sold it. I found it a good headlamp. I now see that there are 2 new versions as outlined below:

Princeton Tec Apex 3 Watt led headlamp (200 lumens) 4 x AA batteries
Weight 300 grams

Princeton Tec Apex 130 lumen Headlamp 2 x CR123A Lithium batteries
Weight 173 grams

I would be tempted to go for the apex 130 as it is nearly half the weight of the apex 3 which makes a big difference as I found the 4 AA battery pack model to be unbalanced with all the weight pulling down at the back of your head.

My only concern for the Apex 130 is the availability of rechargable CR123A Lithium batteries and the price of a recharger for them.

Any views , opinions or alternative solutions welcome.

I have the 130 lumen model, but running off the 4 aa batteries mounted in the pack on the back of the headstrap - never found it any problem personally.

I've mine a few years now and paid around €65 delivered through ebay.

Good beam of light from them.

Hi John, If you want my advice go for a Fenix HP10 or HP20. The quality of these lights are outstanding and my old Fenix PD3 is a good as the day I bought it 3 years on. Even dropped it from a ladder once , and did not effect it.
Not only are they quality light but they are cheaper also than what you are suggesting.
They can be picked up on Ebay or here:
