Glue for fixing rings

#1 Post by yakker »

Need to replace top ring on a cheap beachcaster. Intend to just glue it on but a number of sites say "don't use Araldite". Why? What to use instead?

For the tip ring, a stick of hot melt glue does the job :D

few slices of hot melt glue - put them into the shaft of the tip ring- heat untll the bubbles start to rise to the top - place on rod tip(warning it'll be hot so use some grips etc) - give it a twist and line it up - let her dry and if you have nothing else just nail varnish it to seal the tip like you would with a resin.

If you use hot melt glue like the lads suggested, next time you need to replace the eye it will be easy to get off with no damage to the tip of the rod. Araldite would be a nightmare to remove.
Just one thing don't over heat the tip of the rod if you do it yourself.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

As has already been suggested just use a bit of hot melt for it. I've started carrying a little with me while fishing just in case it's needed.

You may find that the tip was originally put on with hot melt, if so, if you're lucky, a little heating and it might go back on without any extra glue at all. I've had it happen with a rod before so if you've not got any laying about give that a go first, remember, gentle heating with a lighter rather than attempting to cook it!

I cracked a tip eye when fishing in the Gambia a few years back, luckily i had a spare tip eye with me :D but unfortunately i had no hot melt glue  and in west Africa you cant just run down to your local tackle shop.
It was then i remembered that they use hot melt glue to stick cardboard boxes together, so i found a large box and removed some the glue and used it to repair the rod, happy days 8)
Another money saving idea in these recessionary times.
