east cork beech 29th april

#1 Post by PETERG »

People: Me and dad

Duration:10:00am - 16:00pm

Tide: low-10:17am, high-16:10pm

Weather: not a cloud in the sky with a slight breeze

Bait: mack and squid

Results:me=4 turbot
dad=2 turbot

report:
Arrived at mark just before 10. fairly windy to start but died down as the day went on.my dad had 2 small turbot in the first couple of casts neither over 25cm.I had a big knock after about a hour, reeled in to find my trace line snapped half way down,on the next cast the same thing happened, big knock snapped trace, MYSTERY.after that i pulled in 2 small turbot in quick succession, then nothing for about 2 hours , pulled in another 2 small turbot late on, none over 25cm, fairly small surf all day.Thats the first turbot that either of us has caught so thats another species to add to the list,

the big knocks and missing traces could be spider crabs. ive had a few like that but not in a while. they can make sh1te of your rigs and theres no getting away from them.

nice on one the turbots tho,

Lovely fish!!

If its the beach that I'm thinking (and there ain't that many turbot spots in East Cork!) I was freediving there last week and took a few good spider crabs home... so they are there in numbers ;)

ive had them on east cork beaches but more so down west, you could get hammered by them one night and be free from them the next night. they dont half put a bend in the rod tho :lol: just a pity they dont pull back :cry:
