Howth 19/04/11

#1 Post by Wes »

People:just me

Date :19-4-11 into 20-4-11

Venue:Howth

Duration: 5hrs

Tide:in and on the turn

Weather:splendid

Bait:sandeel,mack and some lug

Rigs:pulley, feathers and boom setup

Results: 2 flounder and one mack

Flounder came within first hour, on the third hour I saw the birds diving. Chanced my arm and put the feathers on, hit after a while, just the one mind, and small enough, but nice to see them back.

Just to note, checked a couple of spots before I settled on one, as I havent been up in a while, jesus they're as filthy as ever. Thought there would be some change. :(

Nice session, were you using mack, lug and sandeel in combination? Did you try the sandeel by itself?

well done on the fish yea have to say the pier is getting worse with the rubbish that is left behind ( and us real anglers getting a bad name over it ) haven't fished there in a long time so again fair play

Regardless of the fish, I was just happy to be landing them!
First Howth mack maybe? Not mad about getting them, aside for bait or plate, but when the going is slime, they're a joy as we all know. Some light gear would have been good craic in getting him.

Nanor - 2 combos, both using the sandeel, but not on its own.

tightlines - I'm not big into travelling, greystones being my limit. Howth would be choice about 80% of the time. Surprised and a little shocked you say you have had no luck there.

sparky1 - I popped round to the short pier, balscadden and the split, all filthy as usual, although the split wasnt too bad. So headed to another trusty spot which threw up the fish. Noticed somebody has a pallet platform at the end of the pier, dodgy looking and didnt feel safe.
