West Waterford 19/04/11 Bass and a bonus.

#1 Post by declan65 »

People:Me and Seanie35, few others -James Barry and others already on the mark

Duration:3hrs

Tide:HW 7.15pm

Weather: slight easterly, warm and fine

Bait:lures

Rigs:

Results:1 Bass, 1 Mullet

Report:

Fished a mark this morning, spotted lots of fish and had a few follows but no hook ups :o so decided to try again this evening after work. Arrived at the mark and met James Barry who was on his way up the beach, exchanged the usual banter... any fish?  , Headed down to the spot anyway, one other fishing there already but no fish quick chat and had a few casts nearby. Decided to move back up a bit and third cast fish on 8) , nice scrappy fight from a bass just a bit over three lbs 8) 8) . Seanie arrived down and took up position further up the beach. Was getting a few taps every other cast or so for about the next hour but no luck then wallop rod buckled over , I thought this is a good fish, the rod was arced over to the butt and hopping, I couldnt see the fish at first then saw it a mullet foul hooked in the side and not happy! It continued to put a bend in the rod and diving for deeper water while I tightened up the drag and with the help of another buddy who had just arrived managed to beach the mullet a 6lber! I have to say that even though the fish was foul hooked it gave a serious account of itself and lb for lb these boys can fight. Fished for another while , one other bass was landed by the fella nearest us (about 4lbs I reckon).Packed up just as it got dark.
