buncrana pier 11-4-11
People:just me
Date :11/12-4-20011
Venue:buncrana pier
Duration:about 4 hours, 10.30pmish to 2.30am
Tide:flooding(hw approx 1.30am)
Weather:windy, some strong gusts, the odd spot of rain and cold(not in the floatation suit )
Bait:frozen mackerel and sandeel
Rigs: 2 hook boom size 1 and pulley size 2/0
Results: 1 baby ray
Report: pulled a double shift in work got home about 9pm got fed and while making a coffee i said to the wife "now the wains are in bed and i am off tuesday, maybe i'll go fishing for a few hours" her reply to me was " ok but your taking me up the town for lunch tomorrow". i cant remember if i drank the coffee but i was packed and ready to go before you could boil a kettle Decided to stay local so went to buncrana, it was a bt windy and a nip was in the air but once i was suited and booted i didnt care. There was quite a few strong gusts but withe tripod weighed down nothing moved, apart from the crabs managed to land a hermitt crab a first for me At around 1am i got a rattle on the big rod and hit into a fish, not much of a fight so my guess is a doggie, but i'll never know as it let go, not a touch on the big bait/rod the rest of the night. Was casting at all angles with the wee bass rod, hopping for a coalie or any fish to save the blank. After several casts even the crabs stopped bitting, so at 2am i wound in the big rod and put it away, when that was away i wound in the bass rod it had a bit of weigth on it, another crab i thought, when the headlight shone hit it i thought it was a flattie but when it landed on the pier it was the smallest ray i have seen, blank saved on the last cast of the night.

Re: buncrana pier 11-4-11
You need to start ringing round when your going fishing!! Lol! I would have been well up for a sesh! Think its gonna be a good year for the Ray in the North as i heard of 2 fellas having a pile of Ray off a beach on the Swilly in February! Also reports of a few Ray in the past few days! Heading out this weekend to the Swilly and Mulroy Bay in search of a few so hopefully i'll have a nice report!MC wrote:they are about but in small numbers, i guess i was lucky again but give a few months and more and the bigger ones will start to show
