tralore beach, mucross, donegal 10/4/11

#1 Post by grady »

went a small beach in muckross head to try a new mark, started my session at low water and fish till high tide and an hour after, fishing was low enough thou.
weather was good i thing, dry, cloudy and southerly breez it was good for me , but not sure was good for fish :?:
have used flapper rigs baited with mac, lug, squid, sand eel and razor, but it didn't work atall
so my session ended with 9 flounders 28-35cm and nice wee turbot, actually i didn't expect on this mark, but i knew there some could be cought
there is one greedy flounder grabed bouth hooks, i tucked a picture of it

Prime condition of a turbot lovely shape.
I have seen flat fish feeding in sea life they actually suck what ever they can smell around them then spit out the stones.
Good fishing though.

Nice fishing mate. I love fishing that wee beach. It throws up some nice plaice as well. And there are loads more species off the pier if you can be bothered walking down to it. My uncle had a 5lb bass off the beach on the other side of the head as well mate. If you're gonna fish it be very carefull though as you can be standing on dry sand one minute and up to your neck in water the next !

that's some good info mate, sure this wee pier could be good, as if cast backwards to the beach can expect flats and if cast towards open sea water is deeper then sould throw some conger though well that what i thing
actually i'v stoped at the wee beach across the head on my way home just to take a look there more surf running that much beter condition for bass though, but i didn't know about dangerous sand  as im usualy traveling alone then beter stay away from it as it could bring some trouble
thanks for that mate i will note this

that flounder certinly was'nt hook shy man  greedy wee git, even with a hook already in his chops he was after more free food   . great report and pics man. that spot looks brilliant. the last time we headed up to culdaff we took the scenic tour on the way back checking out some new marks for the summer. found a beach called kinneagoe bay. looked promising with clean sand, reefs and rock marks into deeper water at either end of the beach. do you know of it man?

The small pier at the end of the beach is a good venue when there is a westerly blowing, nice and sheltered.
Theres a good mix of species on it, as it is sand if you cast to the left and rock to the right, just avoid casting near the mooring buoys.
