KERRY1 wrote:Wow 8) That is simply super fishing Frank - very well done. What a fantastic Bass to get , your first of the year on the lure at that which is even better and to top it all off, your best ever Bass :D :D The fishing gods where smiling down on you that day I tell you. I am so pleased for you, you deserve it with the amount of hours your put in. Dedication at it's finest that's what I call it. Great report and brilliant pictures, the smile on your face says it all. Congratulations.
Thanks Paula, the fishing gods were definitely smiling - I wasn't really that hopeful to begin with as there was a much bigger surf than I expected which made it difficult to fish that area.
JOHN1 wrote:Brilliant session frank big well done on your PB, im sure it wont be long till you smash that

Thanks John, I will have a crack at it anyway, maybe get that fish again when it has put on a pound of two over the summer.

Congratulations on a new personal best Frank, and to catch it on a lure even better :P If you didn't have a landing net with you it might be an idea to bring one with you on your next lure session, I find personnally that with the lighter gear for lure fishing its safer to have one with you, just incase you get the big one you don't lose your catch trying to haul him up and it saves you taking risks on slippery jagged rock edges when your shaking with excitement after getting hit by fish like that. Big well done, I'm truely envious
Species 2012:

Cod, Whiting, flounder, coalfish, bass, pollack, sea trout, poor cod, pouting, dogfish, sea scorpion, 3 bearded rockling, blonde ray, painted ray, turbot.

Absolute beauty of a fish Frank, well done on landing it given the conditions, have been hit by a few big ones lately but I failed to land them, there are some lunkers out there for sure. The feed shallows certainly do the biz down here. Many more to come I'm sure now that you are back using the lures!
Got into the habit of chucking away the trebles on the feed shallows and replacing them immediately as I find a decent fish will straighten them no problem.
Everyone should believe in something; I believe I’ll go fishing.

Thanks Cian, it was a bit slim for its length as a 71 cm bass should be about 8 lb (info from Pat).
dfella25 wrote:Deadly stuff Frank and I'm glad to be able to read it
Thanks, just as well I had no photos of undersize fish then
tomgrey wrote:Congratulations on a new personal best Frank, and to catch it on a lure even better :P If you didn't have a landing net with you it might be an idea to bring one with you on your next lure session,
Thanks, I actually did have a landing net, but of course I left it back higher on the rocks with my bag  I was standing in the breaking waves so unless I had the net tucked into a belt it would have been washed away. I had a belt with my previous waders, I must see it that is still lying around the house.

Thanks Declan, that was the first time I used a Feed Shallow along that stretch of the coast, seemed to work well. I did try some surface lures as well but there was no interest in those.
