Cork Bass Personal Best

#1 Post by tomgrey »

People: Me

Duration: 8pm - 12pm

Tide: High at 7.30pm

Weather: Fog and misty rain with some heavier showers, s/w wind.

Bait: Lug

Rigs: 1 up 1 down, 4/0 6/0 Pennel Pulley

Results: 4 bass

Report: I got off for a spot of digging for a planned session the following day. I got lots of the biggest juicyest lug I have ever dug (an inch thick and over a foot long) so I couldn't resist heading straight out, even though the weather wasn't great, conditions for fishing where. Got to the mark and set up after 8pm and started chasing the tide out. I had a few missed bites in the 1st hour but it took about 2hrs to get the first good solid take.

The 1st bass was taken on the top hook of the 2 hook rig and was the smallest at 31cm. The secound was on the bottom of the same rig and was 38cm. The 3rd was taken on the pulley rig which is the one pictured below and was my PB at 55cm :D :P :D I nearly lost him because when I was reeling him in the rod tip got jammed with weed at the leader knot so I had an unbearable minute trying to free it whist feeling the fish with the line in my hand powering away in the surf

Needless to say I was relieved and over the moon to finally land him. I had to get a pic of me holding him so I found a nice rock pool where he started crusing happily while I got my jacket and camera positioned on my tripod, not a camera tripod, my fishing tripod with the aid of some tape  . Managed to get a good snap surprisingly enough and he seemed not to mind as he took off like a rocket back into the surf. I had 1 more on the pulley but still only a schoolie at 36cm. All in all despite the weather it was an enjoyable session. Roll on tonight, similar conditions but no rain :D :D !!!

Well done on your PB.
I generally have my rod rest set up at least 8 m from the water so when weed on the leader knot jams in the tip I can still easily haul the fish onto the beach.

Nice bass. Well done on the pb. I can imagine the heart going ninety when the knot jammed with weed. Fair play on landing it. 8)
