Donaghadee, 27/03/11

#1 Post by Drew »

People: Dan and Drew

Duration: 6.30pm - 9pm

Tide: Erm, wet.

Weather: Wayyyy colder than expected, Northerly breeze making it truely baltic!!

Bait:! Lugworm, White Rag, Mackeral and Sandeel

Rigs: Loops. 1 Hook Clipped

Results:

Around 40 Coalies and Pollack, from 18 to 34cm.

Report:

Dan got back from Florida yesterday with a new Reel and bits of tackle from the states. Phoned him this morning to see if he fancied heading out tonight, answer was yes, so at 1pm we went to the Beach to dig bait for our session, half an hours digging got us more than enough bait for a session.
Arrived down onto the Pier to find one guy chucking feathers over the back wall, and Sheppy and Dean fishing from the rails, had a yarn with the lads, they hadn't caught anything but were in good spirits, they were heading on so Dan and I got set up and started fishing from the rails, pretty much immediately started picking up coalies at distance on the loop rigs. Wind was bouncing the match tip of the rod around violently, but the bites were savage and unmistakable.
Dan started off slow, but sound found a good patch of Coalies and Pollack much closer in, he was happy to see them and had great fun playing them on his new baitcasting reel.
Fished the Evo over the back wall with Sandeels are bait, sadly didn't get a touch all evening. Would love a doggie, just to christen it properly.
So, as night fell it got dramatically colder, and since I didn't bring the suit I decided we'd call it a day at 9pm, great to be out.

Its rough for about the first 30 yards Dawsey n then it gets cleaner, I reckon the back walls about the only chance left in Donaghadee to get a Haddock from the Shore.
