Received a reply from Marcus Wuest secretary of EFSA.

Dear Patrick
I am sorry to hear that the disease of banning anglers from European shore lines has reached your waters too. I have passed on your note to the secretary of EFSA section Ireland for commenting as I feel he might be a bit closer to your issue and to see if he has already some good advice as to how to combat these developments in your country.
I will make sure you get a response.
Regards
Marcus

Re: IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ IF CONCERNED ABOUT SACs
there is a bit of ambiguity as to where ideas lay here i feel.. The report argues our point that we, as anglers, should be allowed to fish within SACs if they are to be introduced, however, some anglers here seem to be protesting about the setting-up of SACs full-stop. Am I right in saying this?
I am all for SACs, as I believe the marine environment has been decimated by commercial over-fishing and so needs protected and managed, but I firmly believe that recreational angling will pose little to no threat, however, i do not agree with anchoring. The concept of anchoring just does not and will not hold-up, there is evidence from all over the world as to the destruction anchors cause to the seabed, reef or otherwise, and for the length of time it needs to recover.
We need to propose no anchoring with our stance and maybe bag-limits and/or catch-and-release only - surely this would only be a small price to pay - then I would fully support the report! in the meantime i dont know if i want to provide my full name and email address... sorry
respect to all the effort being put in here, its great, thank god not everyone is "lazy" (maybe not an appropriate word used either - maybe 'unsure' or 'uninformed' would be better) as i know for sure that most of us will feel hugely threatened by being excluded from fishing in SACs and potential NTZs. or course we are!
