Off the mark Wexford 25th

#1 Post by finding nemo »

People: Powderkeg, Wrasseking, Krusty and myself.

Time: 18;30 - 00;00

Tide: HT 10pm

Bait: peelers, razor, lub and rag

Rigs: 2 hook flappers size 1&2

Weather: clear night and not too chilly

With the fishing being pretty good for us the last week we headed down to Wexford to see if we could capture some early bass. Not a whole lot was going on for the first while until Powderkeg got a nice knock on his rod but ended up missing the fish. We knew atleast there were afew around now so happy days. Next was another big knock on my close in rod which was leaning on an umbrella due to lack of tripod space, when i managed to get a hold of the rod the fish was gone. At this stage it seemed the fish were having a laugh with us.

After buying a new penn powerstix pro(which i am delighted with) during the week i was dying to get it out and christened asap. It wasnt long as the next rod to go wallop was the penn. I reeled in my first bass of the season who gave a great account for himself. I was happy to not have to wait until october again to open the account. We had a new scales but couldnt get it to work so dont know the weight but the lads reckoned 4lbs. The bass posed for a quick photo and was returned to fight another day.

The bass seemed to have disappeared after that and we managed flounder, coalies and rockling. Was a quiet enough night but will defo give this spot a go again soon.

All the bass were after the peelers while rag seemed to catch everything else.

Krusty left his brand new Nikon camera at home so only pic was from an iphone

It was  a 13ft powerstix pro I was using a 4ounce as its 4-6. I was not happy with it when i got it ,the spigot was not great on it. I don't think the male end went in far enough and it way to stiff. I brought it back to the tackle shop he fiddled around with it and said it should be ok. I had no confidence with it and was proved right, i brought it back and he replaced it with another one, there is still a gap on the spigot on this one as well but only about 20mm nothing compared to the other one. Sorry for invading your report
