North Wexford 28/02/2011

#1 Post by southaussie »

People:me and Kevin

Duration:from around 5 till 11

Tide:high at 6pm

Weather:lovely clear and slight offshore wind

Bait:fresh lug, black lug wraps, squid and mackeral

Rigs:flappers

Results:southaussie: sea scorpian????, flounder and rockling and small coalie
:kevin : nice coalies and rockling

Report:arrived at mark and started setting up while i waited for kevin. lovely sunny day small shore surf, sent out a flapper in close and baited up second rod and cast it out when bang left with my supercast shattering below the reel seat  :x , rod back into the bag and set up another rod, kevin arrived with fresh worms and after telling him about my misfortune a small knock on my rod in close, reeled it in and found an angry little prickly fish (sea scorpion i think) if anyone can confirm it would be great, new spieces happy enough, fishing for the rest of the nite was slow enough with rockling and coalies in close but nice to be out. The angry little fish growled and vibrated like a mobile on silent

It's a sea scorpion alright. I think it's a long spined. Can't make it out properly from the photo. Well done on a new species and getting into a few fish anyway. Sorry to hear about the rod. Nothing like a bit of retail therapy to lift the spirits though.

Caught a bigger version of this fish in Florida. A guy fishing with me told me they were called "mother-in-law" fish!!!!!!
