best match hook

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

and if you get a decent fish in a surf be prepared to see you hook bend out  the b940 i do however highly rate i,ve had some big fish on them with no problems but the match hook is just too fine for my liking (i think sharpness of the point is more important than pattern and its ability to stay sharp after a few hours in the surf !)

hey junior conger, there wasn't much wrong with your hooks when you gave me a good trouncing on youghal beach saturday night.    if it aint broke don't fix it lad!

personally i think the b940 match is a bit light for the east cork beaches as there is always a chance of a decent fish so i would stick to the standard b940. thats what most match anglers are using down this way.

8/0 meat hooks cause that's how I roll. I might add I've never won a comp

The Owner hooks are deadly alright but as said quite expensive. I use them on lures and very sharp. Quite easily stick in your finger when changing them. The b940's are grand and cheap. Mustad also do a stainless steel hook (25 for about a fiver) and they wont bend as easily as the kamasan's if your fishing rough ground.

I've had more than a few Owner hooks snap on me, i steer well clear of them these days.

Gamaktsu are wickedly sharp but very expensive from what i recall

Standard B940s..... Sharp, cheap and the standard ones are well strong enough to land most fish your likely to catch. Can't beat them really.....
