Discarding of unwanted fish
Just been sent this link on facebook from a fellow angler up North re the dumping of unwanted fish - worth a visit by anyone concerned about fish conservation .. http://www.fishfight.net .. seems to be gathering some support in UK which can,t be bad for us though it depends what new gov have in stall for the trawlers !

Hugh whatever-his-name-is actually ran a series of programs on how the trawlers were dumping large fish because they were out of quota. I was particularly concerned with the lack of criticism of the fishermen's views that the scientists have it all wrong. Of course there are other ways to manage the fishery, but as long as the commercials take the view that they should be allowed to rape the sea for whatever they can take, there will be flaws in the solution.
A possible solution might be to ban trawls, and only allow landing of fish caught by long-line, with a limit on the number of hooks and the length of the lines.

bpmurry .. I totally agree with your views as said on another post I made last week re the bass ban being lifted the trawler men will do whatever and whenever they want - nothing changes ! our sport is being raped ! again thanks for your views ..john
