Bray Beach and Harbour 27-2-11

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:Me and Fishface, later Sparkiemark

Duration:6pm-10pm

Tide:rising

Weather:cool,breezy

Bait:lug,squid,crab,mack

Rigs:flappers and pulleys

Results:rockling, whiting, doggies

Report:I had just arrived at Bray Harbour and started to set up when Fishface arrived. As the waves were splashing over the wall he had a brainwave which involved us moving a few hundred yards down to the beach to try our luck. This was a big mistake  ,,,,,,,I should have stuck with my original plan of fishing the Harbour  . Anyways we headed to the beach and set up behind the Aquarium. Little did we know that the only fish within casting distance were safely locked up inside the Aquarium  . For an hour and a half we provided amusement to the diners in the Restaurant behind us as we did our best to land a fish. Passersby called us Ghostbusters ,,,,,,,,,,I suppose we did look a bit strange in the survival suits and headlights and backpacks  . A quick call to Sparkiemark , who was on the Pier, made our minds up and we cut our losses and packed up. I didnt feel too bad, as we had both blanked  ,,,,,but then true to form , Fishface found a pin whiting on his hook as we packed up  .He rubbed that in for the rest of the night. As we arrived back on the Pier, Sparkiemark was pulling in a doggie. Fishface landed one soon after, while I had to contend with Rockling, or Slugs as they seem to be calling them now. At least I got a few fish in the end, I even landed a pin whiting of my own, which was rather pleasing  . Another advantage was that Sparkiemark had to listen to all of Neils fishing stories(Poor Mark  ), giving me a break as I've only heard them about 3 dozen times  .Thank God I only took up fishing a few years ago when the fishing was already bad, it's all I know, i'm used to pin whiting and teabag dabs and micro codling and i'm content with anything over 20cms,,,,,,,,,,,,,unlike Fishface who was brought up on dustbinlid plaice and codling, none under nine pound mind you  ,and did I tell you about the time I thought I won the competition with 32 dogs,,,,,,,and carried them half a mile down the beach, only to be beaten by a lad with 46 dogs,,,,there you see,i'm starting to sound like you know who . The fishing went a bit quiet, unlike Neil, who then packed up and headed south to Wicklow, and myself and Mark fished on for another while, till my lift arrived. A good night out in the end, with us all getting a few fish, the pics arent great, but you all know what rockling look like by now

I don't know about everyone else but I've pulled I nice pollock there a few months ago and a friend got a good codling there. The codling had a smaller fish in it's throat and I pulled a prawn out of my pollock.

Apart from those 2 I've caught lots of dab and a coalies and a few rocklings. I'll have to start throwing up my reports actually considering I'm out every weekend. Sometimes on the boat too.

Sorry about that Neil,I left out the attempted murder part of the report 'cos I didnt want to give anyone any ideas where you're concerned  ,, the bad side took over for a moment, all those stories about how great the fishing was in the 1950's were whirling round in my head, then the bad jokes were the last straw, your head was right in front of me as I swung the lead and I thought, "This is my chance, I'll never have to listen to them again",,,,,,,,it was a momentary lapse and i'm sorry   ,,,,,,,,,,,next time i'll just do what I usually do and keep calm and think of nice things and keep saying my mantra "Theres no place like home, theres no place like home", and it will probably pass, like it usually does

Was a nice nite, it's great to pull in a doggie when ppl are pulling in slugs and pin whiting! Was lucky I went to bray as I had been on a beach past brittas from 3 till 6 without any of my baits being touched!

I decided to pack up and try bray as I didn't want a blank! My baits wer coming back in fresher than they wer going out!

Was a good shot dave with the lead, it made a great little noise when it bounced off neil's head!
