Coliemore Harbour

#1 Post by bovenip »

Hiya. I was wondering if anyone has fished Coliemore Harbour behind Dalkey much. I have given it a few goes over the last 6 months and although the catches weren't anything extraordinary, on quite a few occasions I've lost really good fish to the boulders and rocks that cover the ground from 40yds in... I've seen a guy catch a bass of around 5-6 lbs in October but assume thats fairly out of the ordinary and I've heard that conger can be caught over the side so every time I go I stick a mackerel head on a spare rod but as of yet have not got as much as a knock on it...
from 100 yards out, it gets really deep and the tide can be a real killer for holding bottom, but the last hour of the rise and the first hour of the drop is manageable. Has anyone ever had any good catches from here?

Thanks
Peter

Coliemore

#2 Post by John D »

Hello,

I've just had a very quick look at your site. It looks good. I'll take a better look when I'm not so tired. I like the support catch & release logo. In relation to Coliemore I've had a lot of coalies, pollock and wrasse from the rocks. Nothing special though. I'd say 1.5 lb is my biggest fish from here. However I always catch big numbers of fish.

Regards,
John D

P.S. I'm heading down to West Cork at the beggining of March. Any idea what the fishing is like down there at this time of year?

I've never fished west cork, but here's a link to a site that usualy has a few up-to-date reports for the cork area: http://homepage.eircom.net/~fishy1tou/page2.html

Hope this helps!

Hi Peter
Igrew up in Dunlaoghaire and often fished Coliemore from pier and boat . The best time is the first 2-3 hours of the flood tide after that it goes quiet
