Ring spacing for extreme vendetta 13ft multi

#1 Post by kerrywez »

A bit unusual, but not sure where else to put this request. I am doing a Penn Extreem Vendetta-R 13 ft. Someone had rung it for fixed spool and I have nothing to go by for the ring spacing for a multi, if someone has one would they please measure them up for me please, I would also like to know what the original whipping colour was, I have stripped the shrink tube from the butt section and there is some whipping under it, which is blue with a sort of copper tipping to it, would that be right?

Any help would be most appreciated and welcome.

Best regards Wez

Will you be fishing reel up or down? If reel up, you would get away with the same spacings as the Multi. If fishing reel down, you will need to move the first eye onto the bottom section. I don't think your going to get a perfect fit for this unless someone has the rod with Multi setup.... Hopefully someone out there has.

If you measure up a similar rod and tape your eyes on, you can test the spacings.... To do this simply thread some twine through the eyes. Tie a 1kg (ish) weight onto the twine. Hold the other end near the reel position and start lifting the weight. You'll get an idea of how the rod bends under load and also if the line gets a little close to the blank at any time... You can use this method to adjust your spacing and test again. You might not get factory spec spacings, but you will get something that works.

Best of luck,

Kev

Hi kerrywez, dunno if this will help ye but i found it usefull when replacing rings on one of my rods.

http://www.guidesnblanks.com/home

Click on the guide spacing chart and fill in a few details, then try some of the different brands and you should have a good idea where to put the rings for a 13ft multi.
Good things come to those who bait.

And factory spacings are never right and if you can finde spacings on the net for a rod they are only a guide so just play around with them till they work

Thanks for the reply and all the others lads. I will be using the reel up, as my left thumb is too sore to hole the spool of the reel, arthritis in it.

I will go with the taping the rings n the blank and try lifting the weight as that would make sense to me, get the line as close to the bend of the rod as possible would do the trick I would say.

Thanks again to everyone for their replies, I have written to Penn asking about what rings they put on the rod and for some decals, never know they might send me some.

Regards Wez

Normally I just do what you tell me :)

I normally build all my fly rods by finding the spacing like the above.
