#1 Post by lumpy »

got a coleman duel feul lantern which has begun to start making a loud whining noise when its lit. only started the other day. the light output has also deminished when at full power. this happened my friends one as well. jus wondering if any one else has had a similar problem or knows what the problem is.

Happened to me mate. Have you checked the copper pipe that runs up the side. Mine had a very small hole/crack at the top where it had worn through, under pressure that's where the noise comes from. It is hard to see as it was close to the mantle and at night when lit it's even harder to see. Light it up during the day and you might see it better. Apparently they are renowned for doing it as they burn at such a high temp!.. The only thing was to replace it. Sorry I can be more specific with the name of the part but of you contact spotty dog tackle or Gerry's etc they would be able to name it straight away. I bought mine in spotty dog and used it twice before mine went. When I contacted them and described what the problem was they knew how to sort it straight away

Coleman Lantern part...

#6 Post by heath »

Is called the generator, this gets heated by the mantle (fine thread bag) and turns the fuel into a atomized vapour. Usually they get dirty at the end, so you can try cleaning the end with Naptha (coleman fuel) and re-instaaling, though generators shouldn't be very expensive.
