Orcas off Tory Island

Saw this in the Irish Times today, was thinking of going up to see if I could get a glimpse, would be quite a sight...

with this and the first recorded tinselfish it seems this year is bringing a lot of firsts/rarities to irish waters...

The killer whales were among large shoals of mackerel, and there were approx 25 fishing vessels in the area mackerel fishing.

Large quantities of mackerel were being caught in the area, one foreign fishing vessel had 4,000 tonnes onboard while several others had over 1,000 tonnes onboard, all fishing vessels were catching in excess of 200 tonnes per day.

great to see the whales in such numbers i wonder will they come closer suppose they will continue following the mackeral until theres none left

Its nice to see orcas but think about the 4,000 tonne of mackerel on the foreign vessel must be some size. Don't agree with it myself
