Fishing out of CorkMac on Sat

Looks like me BigKev and a few others heading out on Mark Gannon's Boat on Saturday, what's about at the moment fish wise?

Worth bringing any shads n Lead heads along and such like?

Have a few dozen Macks in the freezer, worth getting any thing else (crab lug, squid etc)

hi salmon, was out of that area two weeks ago, i found that the best lure
was a blue and silver bodied shad.
and the large hokies worked as well.
caught black jacks up to 28lbs

Hi samon,

we were using the storm 3 inch blue and silver, with a 10oz weight, on a boom set up, we tried a lot types but they were the best.

Black jacks???? can you mean Caranx lugubris????

A tinosa is a small, black, poisonous tropical fish.

Tinosa fish are found in tropical waters.

Scientific Name: CARANX LUGUBRIS
Common Name: BLACK JACK
Vernacular: BLACK ULUA / TARAKITO / TINOSA

Coalfish (or Coley): Bigger fish are found over the many wrecks in early spring and can be caught with feathers or fish strips. Smaller fish are caught right round the coast throughout the year.

we call them black jacks

I thought this would be too much, even for global warming! never heard of coalfish being called black jacks.

But Caranx lugubris is actually an edible gamefish, with a max wt of 17.9 Kg

hi neil,

i rember them being calling black jacks going back 20 years, but ppl have different names for a range of species around the coast.
does anyone else on the site know them as black jacks.. :?:

black jacks, coalies, coleys, saithe, glassan, black pollack call them want you want 28lbs still hell of a fish
