Kerry or West Cork ?

#1 Post by Danny M. »

Morning,

I am planning a small break with the family ( herself and the 2 children) in March around St Patrick's Day. Now the deal is im "allowed" to bring the lure gear and hit the water for a couple of days when I am down there.

So my question is to those with experience down there at the mentioned time of year, where would you recommend Kerry or West cork?
I have not had the pleasure of fishing either so im in the dark !

I plan on targeting Bass, Wrasse and Pollock on the Lures C&R.

Thanks,
Danny.

Go for Kerry. Give John Quinlan of the Thatch Cottage, Ballinskelligs,Waterville a shout.

I would agree with Pat,
Plenty of good marks around there: Ballinskelligs Bay, St. Finan's Bay, Derrynane.
When you arrive go into Kevin Brain's tackle shop in Waterville and get a copy of his book, that has a good description of the better marks in the area. He should also be able to give you some pointers on where is fishing well.
If it's wet and windy bring a bait rod - should be good surf fishing after dark.
