Inside Cork Habour 08/01/11

#1 Post by XmartyX »

People:Me

Duration:4.30pm to 7.30pm

Tide:HW at 7.30pm

Weather:North Westerly Wind and biting cold

Bait:Razor and Peeler

Rigs:Puller Pennel with a second dropper above it

Results:12 Codling and 1 Coalie

Report:
Arrived at the mark with a good north westerly breeze churning up a nice surf. The water looked very murky and weedy and I was a bit concerned that it would end up unfishable. It was about three hours to high water and I spent the first one asking myself the usual question ‘Was that a bite’ I changed bait after an hour and put on a nice juicy peeler crab on the pulley rig, cast out and the bait had hardly settled on the bottom when the rod literally doubled over! The fight was great and I almost thought I was in to one of those bass I’ve been reading about! Ended up a lovely codling – a personal best for me at just under three and a half pound! I have no tape but my box is 40cm long in the picture below. It seemed to just switch on after that and I spent the next two hours catching a load of codling and a solitary coalie. There were a few bigger ones this time and I took home the ones below for the table. Great craic but bloody freezing!

Thanks lads. The father in law is coming down from Belfast next Thursday mad to catch a cod! Hope there are still some around  .
Very big fish get to be very big fish by eating very small things very carefully!
