Hi Lads
Having looked at the latest ISFC specimen booklet for 2010, it has become rather difficult to work out what specimen weight is correct etc
There has been a good few changes ( all rductions ) of specimen sizes, and for some commonly caught fish, so have compiled this list to try and simplify all the correct informattion available in the new booklet, its in XL format and can be printed out for the boat as a handy guide.
For some reason in the book they have changed many of the specimen sizes but not changed the figures on the lists.
Also, nearly all specimens can now be accompanied by just a photograph of the fish, no need for bodys unless claiming a record, the booklet explains very well EXACTLY what parts of the fish to photograph, and as mentioned on another thread measuring of tope is now accepted along with photographs.
Donal has also done one and will no doubt post his here too

THE ACTUAL BODY must be forwarded for identification in the case of the following species: RIVER EELS taken in tidal waters,i thought there was a ban on keeping river eels

Another thing i was wondering, when does a codling turn in to a cod?,when does a scoolie turn in to a bass?

Good question!
I think it depends on the area, how common the particular species is, boat or shore, and the angler himself and his abilities.
I would catch a four pound codling but it would be an eight pound cod.
I would reckon a schoolie bass would be under three pounds and there would likely be a few around at the time.
A conger under 10lbs would be a strap - basically a small fish probably under 1500mm
With whiting, down this way anything under 300mm would be considered a nuisance fish, probably even bigger, basically anything not worth the effort filleting - you don't often hear the expression "pin" in this neck of the woods.

I would propose two provincial categories -

East Coast and South Coast or rest of Ireland..

An East coast cod is 8oz and a South coast cod is 8lb
An East coast specimen cod is 20oz and south coast specimen cod is 20lb. and so on and so on..

If we have provincial categories then the specimen book would be fairer ....
