Greystones 8/1/11

#1 Post by chenz116 »

People:me & jackthelad

Duration:14:30 to 20:30

Tide:going out

Weather:windy and very cold the odd light shower

Bait:frozen mackerel, lug

Rigs:2 hook flapper

Results:2 dab,5 beard rockling, coalie (thanks lads)

Report: Arrived at 2.30 and things weren't looking good after 3 hours and we hadnt even had a bite and confidence was low after the last three outings have been blanks. Then as the darkness started to set in jackthelads rod started hopping as if the fish were waiting for the sun to go down. He had plenty of bites but wasnt hooking anything.

My rod wasnt moving at all but i pulled in the smallest flounder ive ever seen, next cast i pulled in a 5 bearded rockling, next cast a small codling. I caught another small flounder just before we went home.

I was delighted to have 3 different speices in the one session as last year i only caught two so it was a great start to the year. but i was wondering anyone have any idea why there all so small ???

Yep, Dabs and coalie...
Three species all the same, not a bad result at all to start of the year..

I always get the flats confused  You know it's a dab if you rub up and down and it's smooth one way and like sand paper the other. But I've all to often mistaken a flounder for a plaice, only to be corrected

Well done lads for sticking it out even though yiz where off to a quite start. Just shows how some marks just fish better in darkness. I do wonder if this is more true in winter though, anyone?
