Report:
So here we are, the end of 2010, and a new year dawning... Time for one last wetting of the line before the species, venues, and sessions lists are reset... and what a brilliant way to go out. I was at B.A.C yesterday picking up my new 515Mag2, when I asked if there was any spare Rag, "Certainly", was Harrys reply and the rest is history!
So at 5pm today it was off to one of my favourite local marks, a few phonecalls made, but nobody available to fish with, so I added the radio to give myself something to do in case the fish weren't biting.
Rods were set up as follows 515Mag2 + Penn Affinity M, and Sl30sh + Imax4/6, 25lb line, 50lb Shockleaders. The Rigs were a 3/0 Pulley on the Imax, and a 2 Hook Sheppy Rig on the Affinity.
30yd lobs are all that's needed on this mark, so baits were in the water, first tin of coke was opened, looked up, to see the affinity bouncing away, dead on! So I hit it, pretty weighty, turned out to be 2 identical Coalfish of 22cm a piece. Good start eh? Baits back in, and this time the Imax hammered over, Rockling! +1 on the species then.... the rest of the night was spent attempting to hit some really mental wee bites, I was using 3/0 and 2/0 hooks respectively and therefore hoooking up the smaller fish was quite difficult. However, over the course of the night I didn't manage to connect with a few of the other fish and had a great time doing it. All the while listening to 5Live!
Tonight was the first outing of my new 515, and I'm really falling for this reel! It casts very well, and the power on the retrieve is perfect. Before I came home I was throwing 150g with it, and getting good distances (before anyone says anything, good distances for me!). We'll see how it stands up to my abuse and time, but at the minute, I can do nothing but recommend this wee bad boy!
Also treated myself to a Greys Fleecy smocky thing today, and had it on tonight, it wasn't cold out, but it feels like I could be onto a winner with this one too!
Seriously good night, great end to the year. Roll on 2011. It's gonna be an epic one!
