whats your best rig? why why dose it work for you?.
hello all.
. Well Ive been looking through my old fishing mags and my tackle boxes-es. In the mags the different amount of traces is crazy. But Ive only a few that i use all the time. Mainly a long or short snood 3 hook flapper. i find this covers most if not all fishing trips. but what your best / favorite trace and why?. Thanks for any replies happy fishing +Christmas.

Hi Dan
Like most of us I am sure there is a great choice of rigs in your wallet as there is in mine.....
Depending what I am targeting I use different rigs, but as a general all rounder I like to use clipped rigs for Bait presentation. A two Hook clipped Flapper using a cascade swivel and SRT Springs is a favourite of mine. This works brillantly with a breakaway lead, clippped and released every time. Another tip is to use either Breakaway movable crimps / powergum to hold the snoods in place either side of the swivel from the main Trace body, as then they are adjustable up and down the line if you want to change positions on the main trace body or need to replace a snood. I have started to add a bottom swivel which is fixed just above the lead and if required I can attach a snood to the same trace to fish two up and one down.
The other Rigs I use are Pulleys (double and single) and Loop Rigs (two up, one down clipped).
I recently used a Drop Pulley rig but is not great in big surf but would be good as a long flowing trace.
Good luck with it...
Mick

My favorite clipped down is the 2 hook loop rig (20" snoods, hooks from size 2 to 3/0) My favorite short range rig is a 2up 1 down 3 hook flapper with 24" snoods to a size 2 hook.

Do you mind if I ask why you use these rigs? They do not catch as many fish as a normal 2/3 hook clipped rigs and they tangle most of the time.Wild Rover wrote: 2. Clipped Wishbone with sliding hook attached.

Re: whats your best rig? why why dose it work for you?.
Hi,
I guess the main reason is I'm used to them & have confidance in them. I'm retired from Match Fishing and these days I tend to fish purely for fishings sake and the enjoyment it brings me.Quantities of fish caught do not bother me anymore. As long as I'm catching anything I'm happy & tend to put most back.
I fish alot of areas with significant tidal runs. Tied correctly and used where appropriate they do not tangle more than any other rig. I do tend to use clip down rigs on the beaches but the majority of my fishing tends to be varied so I tend to build multi usage rigs. These are just amongst my favourites, I do not use them exclusively. Hope this helps.

two hook clipped down double pennel ,for fishing two big baits at distance ,three hook flap and three hook clipped down for over 50 yards and pully rig for humongus crab baits ,sometimes use an up and over instead if fishing in a strong tide, snoods depend on what i,m after ,with short ones for a rough surf to stop tangles

Option 1 and 3 of the above. I find that they are great all rounders.eeler wrote:2 hook double pennel flapper with 3/0's for Bass

I think they are good rigs for what he is targeting with them, but not great all rounders. Number 2 would be the best all rounder of the lot for me...but you live in Kerry where there are big fish

You cant go wrong with 3 hook flapper and three hooked clipped in most situations..Pully's and one hook flappers/clipped with rotten bottems in rough conditions!
Hook sizes/type and line etc depends on chosen species targeted! imo
