kilcoole 17 dec

#1 Post by mickm »

people: me

time: 21:00 to 02:30

tide: high to low

weather: calm but freezing cold

bait: lug mackeral crab

rigs: 3 and 2 hook flappers, pulley rig

results: 5 flounder, 3 dabs, 5 rockling, 6 whiting, 2 coalies

report:
Decided to head out for a session before the xmas wit weather warnings and all didnt go far just a short trip to kilcoole. Had left over bait in fridge to be used up and after a trip to tackle shop was all set with 40 good live lug aswell.Arrived in kilcoole and seen 2 lads fishing had quick chat with them found out the rocking and flounder were taking lug (and thanks lads for the left over lug u gave me hope u got home ok) so set up one rod close in 3 hook flapper no. 2 hooks with lug and one distance rod at with pennel pulley 2\0 with rab and lug straight away close in rod started nodding left it a few mins as i finished setting up the other rod, when i pulled it in had a nice flounder and small whiting on, a good start.Rebaited with lug again and back out about 30 yards noticed other rod knocking wound in to find lovely rockling of 37cm on it.REbaited it and back out at distance again. Was after fogetting my gloves so fingers beginning to feel the cold now, so decided a cup of hot coffee from flask was in order but before i got a chance the close rod started up again, so wound in to a dab and rockling double. This was the way things went for next few hours distance rod was a bit quieter so changed to 2 hook flapper 1\0 hooks at medium range worked out well as this rod got 2 coalies on next cast and got rockling flounder and dabs on it for next hour, none of the bigger codling or doggies i was hoping for showed up all night, at about 00:30 things got very quite and nothing i did made a differance, it was just the odd fish from then on finished up at abut half two. Was all in all an enjoyable night and was very glad i went out sorry no pics as kids playing with my camera and broke it, hopefully santa might bring me a new one

Hi - Is there a quieter part along kilcoole as opposed to being beside the train station where everyone walks?

Appreciate any help.

Cheers
