local donegal rock mark

#1 Post by last cast lad »

People:me and mick

Duration:4.00-8.00pm

Tide:dropping

Weather: gentle east flutter

Bait:bluey, mackeral, sandeel, herring, squid tipping

Rigs:pulley, flapper

Results:mick 3 thornback rays, doggies galore
me 3 thornback rays, 3 doggies, 2 whiting

Report:decided on a short afternoon session just to get rid of the cabin fever :x that had been building up with all the recent snow and determined to get a session in before the snow comes back to our nice donegal roads  . So not even the east breeze was going to detere us :? , we landed a good number of thornies for this time of year all between 3 and 4 lb apart from micks best which was almost  a pb at 6lb 9 oz :D just 3 oz off his pb, the double figure ray is still eluding us both but we have identified a few more possible maks to try next year. apart from the usual pack of dogs the only other excitment was my pb whiting, and not just the pin whiting that normally annoy the bait meant for better fish, It came in at 33 cm best I've had :D
Soory about the poor quality photos just taken on the phone as I couldn't find the camera :x :x , mick text me to say he found it while cleaning out the van :x :D :x this morning
all in all a worth while trip.

Lovely ray mate. If you fancy disclosing a rock mark or two in Donegal by all means tell me in secret :D. Been looking to try something different to our typical Co. Antrim marks but I understand if want to keep it hush hush.

and to think that i posted a topic to ask if anybody could advise me on ray at this time of year around donegal. (25th Nov: 'lough swilly - fahan and buncrana - ray or bass?')
the responce i got was to forget about it, but i suppose that i did actually specify around fahan and buncrana only. goes to show that they are still here at this time of year though. now i am wandering where to get them..
so did you get these ray within swilly or somewhere else in donegal? i would love to catch my first one
