look at the Bass fishing ,its probably at its best,might even be better next year and thats down to a lot of hard work

Plumster ,Sean put up a genuine and honest report and photo.I dont think you can relate your comment above to his cod bonanza.As i genuinely dont think you will ever see a picture of illegally caught Bass displayed like Seans legally caught Codling on this forum and this kind of illegal activity does happen on an even greater scale than you could ever imagine.My point is Commercial fishing decimated Cod fishing in Ireland not Sean and the countless other Shore anglers that break there backs to collect bait or break there bank accounts for that matter,to freeze there behinds off for a few hours fishing in the hope of some nice plump codling for the table.I think that the root of the problem lies with a much superior issue than Sean throwing a few more fish back into the drink to help conservate and replenish stock levels so a fishing trawler can come along and net the same returned codling


I cant wait for Seans next report ,Probably a few blanks now that hes depleted the last of the cod population

I think what people are trying to say is that its been a while since we had numbers of cod about, lets just give em a bit of a chance. Its easy to get heated, and believe me I have pi**ed off plenty of people on this site about Bass conservation amongst other topics.

I can see both sides of the argument but would lean more towards keeping 4/5 and then letting the rest go. Just for the hassle of having to gut em more than anything else..!

I do think that though if we jump down peoples necks about it you will have less and less people on the site. Already in the few years of posting I have noticed some of the good regulars not post anymore and mainly due to arguments and opinions. Would be a shame to lose more.

Some people they catch a few Bass and then they become International fishing stock rescue control,this was a sea angling report Genuine and honest ,Dont think it was meant to start as big a discussion. if you were a bit upset about the report maybe you should have posted a new topic in the comments section with your views on what accounts for an excessive amount of legally caught fish for the table from the shore.

Nice one seanie that was some session but you are right to keep the fish if they are up to the right size for you and the family to eat and have on the table. 1 rod fishermen is not going to make a dent in the cod stocks as we would never take in what a trawler would...... Hope you enjoyed the fish and again just reward for putting in the time in adverse waether conditions

I have never posted a report on here and if this is what happens when an honest, hard fishing angler takes what he has caught, then I doubt that I ever will. The illegal nets here in Kerry take ten times that amount of Bass a night and that is just one net. Would those who are complaining about an angler taking what he is well entitled to, like to come down here and talk to the net poachers, I am sure they would be very welcome and made feel at home by them. Just who many of those cod would have survived if they had been returned, very few I venture to suggest, I know that most of the cod I have returned, at Da Wall, have floated up or down on the tide, what is the point in wasting good food, especially in the present climate of austerity, well done that man I say, he caught the cod and he is entitled to keep them if he so desires. I would agree with complaining if the fish had been the size I have seen taken by anglers who do not care what fish they have in their bag, some of those cowboys really get up my nose.

I really hope that the cod were tasty and well enjoyed for a few days and I hope that you have as much, if not more, success on your next outing, but for the sake of some members well being, please do not post any pics of them, we do not want to cause any heart attacks; do we now?

I am going codding tomorrow and can only hope that I could have the success that Sean had, if I do you can be assured that I will take all the keepable fish I might be lucky enough to catch and I will really appreciate them and their excellent taste, though I would much rather have haddock.

maybe im just trying to defend the indefendable but i still think future fish stocks are out of the shore/boat anglers hands its firmly in the hands of the EU with quotas and such. that unbeliveable decline you mentioned is a direct result of overfishing and under regulated commercial fishing. but back to the point of taking home 18 codling i stand by it, ive since returned 40+ fish not looking for a medal for those returns but it balances out over 6 fishing sessions to keeping 3 fish a session it just looks uglier and abit shocking for some the way i done it. And also good luck with those sessions you have left in ya

Sorry, I cant help but say this, anyone who thinks that shore or boat anglers are responsible for the serious decline in the fish stocks is a total muppet. I mean yeah there are wreck marks that are heavily fished by boat anglers and yes that has probably resulted in the that particular mark holding fewer fish but it does not mean that the overall stock level has been decimated. The same goes for Seanie keeping a few cod from what sounds like a quality cod mark that i'd happily give my left testicle to know about! Fish stocks being what they are due to the commerical men, pollution and global warming. 18 cod is not even a drop in the ocean even if you were to somehow times it by a 1000. I still don't understand why the only complaint about people taking 100's of Mackeral in one session, is about the filthy chavs catching them. Will noone stand up for the humble Mackeral??!!!...oh and the worms and sandeels all of which get damn good thrashing from the evil sea angler. Gurn up. Build a snowman or something.
