Report: headed down to downhill beach on sat evening with a few mates. with benone road closed we decided to hit the closer beach for a go.
this was my first time night fishing and beach fishing, so i purchased myself a stand and a head lamp for the session.
started off pretty slow for us, we were baiting up with rag only. after about half an hour chris (the novice of our group) got a bite and reeled it in to find he had a nice wee sea trout on. it was carefully unhooked and returned to the water. i was next in landing a wee turbot, now i think thats what it was, so someone can confirm this when i get the pics up?
the evening went on pretty much the same with me landing a double plaice catch.then finally it came. william and chris were putting out my two plaice i caught when i noticed chris's rod twitching, i shouted him but he was too far down the water to hear so i duely reeled it in for him. i did know what i had until i heard a shout 'its a bass, its a bass!'. brilliant job, esp for chris who hadnt a clue what it was!! lol it was great that one of us got one, it was also the first i had seen in the flesh. it was too small to take so it was returned asap, and it shot back off into the dark ocean.
a great first session on the beach and i think i will def have to get at it again. i still have all my rigs and weights that i started the session off with!!! lol
end scores were; Chris - 5 plaice, 1 sea trout & 1 Bass, William - 2 plaice, 1 sea trout, Me - 7 Plaice, 1 turbot & 1 codling.
3 new species for me and i got to reel in a bass. lol pity it wasnt on my rod!
will upload pics the mara when i get into work
