Report:
i,ve been working at the marina in dingle for a week and some locals had told me that fish could be caught anywhere......so i finished for the day and hit the pier to ease myself in gently as my plan to dig some rag did'nt happen, so armed with some fresh mack i tried fishing close in at range and a float set-up. not a single bite all night except for a decent sized green crab as i was reeling in to pack up. think i'll try the beaches next time........................
any one heading out in the area over the next few weeks can give me a shout on 07966365856 if you fancy a bit of company and showing me where the fish are..............
some times catching crabs is a good thing.........or is it...........?

get onto bob moss and buy one of his books. tell him you'll collect it and have a chat with him. might be the best €10 you'll spend down there. if he cant find you a few fish, nobody will
bobmoss@iol.ie or 066 915 51 58,
probably 353 66 915 51 58 from your mobile

Used to fish inside the marina there a few years ago for congers using a (big) float and mackerel. Worked a treat - there is some HUGE congers in there for someone using shore gear - just fishing from the path where people walk along the side of the boats with the grass behind you i.e. when you are fishing your back is towards Reenbeg and you are facing John Benny's pub. Lobbing the float 5 yards out was all it took....Never caught much else off the pier/marina there.

That aside - Bob's book is well worth a look. If you drive the road out of dingle past the Skellig hotel and take a right down a small rd before Ballintaggart house (hostel) theres a little carpark at the bottom - park there, walk along the (sinky) sand to the rocks and fish for Rays off the rocks there out into the channel from low water up. Great mark for them - fresh mackerel here. People tend to swim there and hang around looking for (the) dolphin but not somuch in winter....Cast out in the direction of Caherciveen and you're good to go!

unlucky minty. have you tried the wee pier on the left hand side of the road just before you come to o'sheas pub on the road to ventry??. even in sub zero temps we caught doggies, coalies and rockling there last winter :P :P . just like fishing back up home at waterfoot, you can fish from the seat of the car at that spot :D
