catching fish in a barrel...

Went down to the docks in Galway today after seen a few lads catching some macks yesterday.So after a few casts i was taking up 3 macks at a time. Just by dropping the feathers down the side of the wall. Two hours of fishing and i had over 150 macks. That's the bait supply for the winter sorted. :) The thing is the macks were chasing a massive shoal of herring sprat and they went into the dock on high tide and the dock gates are closed now so they have no where to go.. So any one low on bait or a good feed get to the docks. :mrgreen:

Bait sorted then Dan for the months to come, better than buying it eh? plus a bit of crack as well....
If it is on your door step (and what are the odds of it happening again) then why not....

I wouldnt eat any mack that are caught inside the dock gates. Perfect for bait but not for eating

oil leaking from ships etc etc. A friend of mine used to work at the docks and he loved eating macks but would never eat any that were caught inside the gates.

I thought Mack were supposed to be oiley?? Its Galway not the Gulf stream :roll:

cheers for the tip Dan...headed down myself - had about 80, and that was fishing in the dark :-) delighted as I normally get a session from the boat to stock up, but hadnt managed this year.

bait sorted :-)

thats a cracking turnover for an evening. bait well and truely sorted. will save you a fortune on bait now.
