Wicklow Harbour, 24-10-10

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me and Fishface

Duration:6-30pm-10-30pm

Tide:rising

Weather:slight northerly breeze,cold, dry

Bait:lug, mack, squid, frozen crab

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:me , 3 bites, Fishface, 1 bite and a nibble

Report:Having decided not to go fishing this weekend as conditions werent right (according to me and i'm no expert  ),,,,,,,,,,I went against my own advice and went to Wicklow Harbour with Fishface   . We didnt get any fish, which shouldnt have been a surprise to me   ,but I didnt feel any better just 'cos I had been proved right :? , if that makes any sense  .. Neil had dug some nice lug earlier but even these didnt tempt the crabs, let alone any fish. 2 foreign lads had some success , catching some small flatties with 6 hook Sabiki's tipped with mack, but we decided we wouldnt stoop that low,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and BLANKED    . One can only take so many hours on a cold exposed pier without even getting a nibble before thoughts start to turn to a warm room and a cold beer and Match Of The Day 2   . When Neil started hinting about what time he had to be up at in the morning I knew that the game was up  . I stayed on an extra half hour in a vain attempt to get one up on him but the fish just werent playing ball and I packed up at 10-30pm. I hope this report might be of some comfort to any other unfortunates out there who blanked last night,,,,,,,,,,in the haunting words of Michael Jackson,,,"You are not alone".

Hard luck on the blank. I fished enerreilly north last night for a couple of hrs with a single whiting to show for efforts. Nice night though, if a tad cold.

Fished Courtown last night with Roger and Eric, slim pickings dogs and whitihg and the odd micro flat. Tony and Drummer fished wicklow harbour yesterday during the day and only had a dog and 2 dabs for their efforts. Still nice to get out and freeze our nuts off

I wont blame you John, that was the one good thing that happened yesterday. Thank God I didnt use it or it would have started life off with a Blank

Hard luck Paul, but it looks like even our best efforts werent good enough last night  Sometimes we cant help ourselves going out even though we know the odds are against us. At least the wind direction has changed and should ease for next weekend

eyesreilly, if it makes ye feel any better, i blank most times that i go out. :( Not many places to go to from newry without havin to travel a bit so i keep going to the same place hopin that some fish gets lost and picks up my bait. But, even with blanks, its better than havin to watch the friggin soaps at this time of the evening. i'm sure that some of ye will agree, he he.
Good things come to those who bait.

I didn't have a great day's fishing on Sunday either.
I went to Absolute Fishing's open day (Tramore), spent far to much money on lures etc. Then on the way home tried a new mark along the Copper Coast. It looked a great spot for bass, shallow rock platform with plenty of gulleys, I reckoned the bass would be all over it as the tide rose. Chucked out all my shiny new lures, as well as some of my old reliable ones, until my arms ached   Not a tap, but I was sure that at dusk the fish would show up in force. But as the sun dropped still nothing - then suddenly I felt a bite - a small pollock on my new Feed Shallow, but not much bigger than the lure. I thought that must signal the start of an improvement. But that was it - not another bite.

I planned to fish until 7 pm and told Melissa I would be back at the car shortly afterwards (she was patiently waiting in the car for me) but I got cut off by the tide - and have to wait until about 8.45 pm before I could make it around a rock promontory. She wasn't happy!!!!
