Wickla 15/10/2010

#1 Post by dfella25 »

People:Just me

Duration:3pm until 7pm

Tide:HT at 6:10

Weather:Dry and choppy. NW wind was cutting

Bait:Rag and Mac

Rigs:Flappers

Results:Coalies Galore

Report:Between Judge Jules, Bob Nudd being busy and Roy Scheider chasing jaws I was all alone on Friday. I decided a nice drive South for some easy fishing was on the cards. I headed down to Wicklow Pier to see if there were any Wrasse still about for a bit of craic. Armed with a five foot spinning rod with 10lb braid a nice pounder to pound and a half would give me a nice scrap. I lobbed out to as I had some nice dab this time last year too.

From the off I was getting pollock, coalies, wrasse and Tompot's. The wrasse never beat the pound but I had some fun with them. I had a bird hanging around and any fish that did not dive straight away became lunch. Then I was abused by two lads for wasting the fish I was throwing back  This followed with a man and two kids who wanted to kill time and have a chat. I politely suggested that I was there to get away from my kids for a few hours

Just before HT I was getting knocks with the rod I had cast out. I was getting tons of coalies mostly over 30cm every cast. Again on light gear, 20lb braid and a soft tip rod I was able to have some fun. I ended up with one dab just over 20cm.
Job done had some peace and a few fish, 7 species intotal I headed for home for some hot coddle  8)

Thats a decent session Conor, well done  Sorry to hear that you were abused by not one but two lads  , I blame the parents  ,,and thank God all that man wanted to kill was time  ,sounds like Dodge city down there   . Light rod and line is the way to go for some sport there and you just never know what may turn up  . Nice to see the coalies about,,,,,,,,,,should have gome there myself

ps I usually find I get more peace and quiet when I wear this handy piece of kit down there
