Tide: High at approximately 18:06

Weather: Very breezey, mild, Dry, sunny spells, New moon, big waves.

Bait: Fresh rag, frozen sandeel, frozen squid.

Rigs: 2 hook paternoster.

Results: Nothing (not even a bite)




Report: I was hoping for a bass. I thought the day of the new moon and it being early October I was almost certain of one. Unfortunately I could not avail of lug which is what my preffered bait was on the day. Even the backup bait rag weren't great quality so I suppose I was starting with a disadvantage. I started off at a really likely looking mark that I've been meaning to fish since I first came across it while out walking a few years back. I think it's called 'Kilrassan' or something like that. It's three or four kilometeres around the corner from Tramore strand, just past the tin man. I'll definitely be going back some time though. Anyway after there I fished the strand itself for an hour and a half and then finished off fishing the last hour of the flood at Saleens. I didn't even register one bite all day. It was disappointing and very puzzling too. There was a good surf running but it was more wild and dirty than clean and oxygenated. I'm experiencing a bit of a bad run because I've blanked on my last 4 or 5 sessions between sea angling and pike angling, but it just makes me more hungry. I can't wait to feel a good tug on my line again!

Awhh lad hate to hear that! I went out got fresh dug lug thursday morning out in Credan and hit the beach that night! I got few tugs and bites, got 4 runs from the silver beasts themselves, i landed two of them, one only 41cm weighing about 2 and half pound and i didnt measure the second one as i knew he was well over the size limit, 7pounds so he went back to fight another day! i hate taking the big ones home coz id prefer to catch him again when he's bigger

unlucky john. i've noticed that with the water before myself. a few of the beaches we fish have rivers running into them. after a heavy downpour they colour up and the fishing just dies a death but if we move on up the beach just a mile or so to the clear water, the bites pick up again

Hard luck John. My advice to you is to stick at it, don't give up or let it get to you. We all go through bad spells from time to time (me more than most!! ) You've just got to keep going and keep trying and eventually it will pay off and those disappointing sessions are soon forgottten and go to the back of your mind. I am surprised myself that saleens didn't produce more for you, it can be very good there. I haven't fished it myself but I know people who have and they have came away with some nice bass caught. It's a place I intend on fishing sometime in the near future myself. Anyway, good luck with your fishing and I hope that your next session out is a better one for you, tight lines

I went walkabout down that beach last year with some lures and got a few decent pollock, i'd say it would have produced after dark if baitfishing. Its a beautiful spot that Kilrastafari

Hi John,

tramore beach does not usually fish too well in daylight. Very rarely anyway. Using that as a guide to future trips down there will improve your success rate 100%. Rising tide into darkness will see you right most of the time.

This time of the year onto x-mas will see a good mix of species.
