Leenan Pier 10/10/10

#1 Post by cathald »

People:me and the nephew Dylan

Duration:1.30-7.00

Tide:low to high

Weather:warm with a light breeze

Bait:sandeel

Rigs:various

Results:me 1 dog,tub gurnard 3 coalies
dylan 3 coalies 2 pollock

Report:didn't get out on saturday as I was taking photos at a wedding,Had a few beers on sat night so didn't get up to early then Dylan rang to see if I was going fishing so I said we would go out at 1
Picked Dylan up and headed to leenan Pier. There was three guys from Derry fishing there and they made room for us to squeeze in.It was fairly quiet and the guys only had 1 flounder between them.
As the tide started to fill the doggies started to bite and everyone was soon catching and the craic was good between us all
Then the bango player landed(you know who he is if you fish leenan)He squeezes into the left hand corner and crosses my line first throw and says as he reels in your lines under me.He soon got the message on my next cast as the 60z lead went zooming past his ear lug.
Then all hell broke loose as they came out from nowhere in there droves chucking the tinsal everywhere
I think about 10 got out of one car old lumps of steel tied to a set of feathers for a weight and away they went.Over the top of everyone the three lads from Derry left and we said our byes.I stuck it out for another while hitting the odd guy with the shoulder as he tried to move in,it is handy being 6''1 and 18 stone to get a message across.
Ohh by the way the bango man caught a herring that morning at about 7am,Just thought I'd let you know as he told it to every one who came down the pier that day.I think I heard it about 50 times
I didn't get photos of the fish but here is a few from the pier

busy enough spot there that day man  i always have a wee chuckle to myself every time "banjo man" lands in down there. you can almost see him sizing up who he reckons the quiet lads are on the end of the pier, then planks himself into the middle of them muttering away to himself that "there are too many lines out" as he brazenly casts over the top of them all in an effort to clear a gap for himself to fish through  thankfully he never stays too long, must have to head off to get his "i shot JR" t shirt on and size 15 wellies on to go and harrass some sheep in the hills

i fish leenan, every week different days. there is only one of the locals, that would get on like that.but iv'e never seen that guy in the photo are you sure he's one of the locals.?usually when the locals appear we move our tripods back & let them get on with it were going to be fishing overnight anyway.also i know most of the locals, & get on very well with them dont know them all by there names but they are all a decent bunch of guys once you get to know them its not worth mixing it with these guys. iv'e watched them going after the mackerel, once the mackerel, have gone they share their catch equally among themselves obviously for the plate.

This guy is a local and if you fish there as often as you say you would have come across him
His is a ignorant p~~ck the language he use's in front of young people is awful
don't get me wrong there are a lot of decent folk around the Urris area.
why should you move your tri-pod and stand back and let some folk muscle in on a spot you have been fishing all day,I dont see them cleaning up any mess they leave behind which they do a lot of the time.
I only live a few mile out the road so I'm no stranger to the area
If I went on like this in my area I would expect a dig in the jaw for being an assh##e
so don't be sticking up for pr##ks when they don't deserve it

i truly dont know this guy when the mackerel, are in the locals will be all over the pier & will cast over you, across you, even under, you its better to give way. as i said its odds on i would be fishing all night so i'd put the pan on & have fry up i can only say iv'e found no one at leenan like this guy & wouldnt stick up for anyone that behaves in the manner described. how i havent come across this guy is beyond me.
