ambassadeur 6500ct sports mag

#1 Post by sparks »

Howdy folks,

just looking for a bit of advice, I got a 6500ct sports mag from a mate of mine (1st time using a multiplier), I'm just wondering if anyone else uses one and what settings do they use, it has settings from 0 - 9 on it, does the settings on it make it easier to cast, or is the casting all down to your technique. Their is no manual with it, does anyone know where I can get a manual or anysite that recomends settings, line etc etc. Any help would be great, thanks Sparks

The slider controls the magnetic braking on it, the higher the number the greater the breaking effect. I'd strongly suggest starting off on 9 and see how it goes from there. After a few casts, if you don't have any fluff ups drop down a notch and see how you get on. There's no point in trying to start with 0 as you'll probably just suffer from birdies.

You'll notice a couple of knobs on the reel, one at each end. Don't use these to brake the spool, they're there to centre the spool rather than brake it. Set it so that the spool is central and then loosen off until you can feel, but not see, any movement.

Line wise the standard is probably 15lb, of which you'll get more than you'll ever need on there.

The settings that work for you mate may not work for someone else. Slow the reel down using the mags with the slider and add a bit of tension using the knob on the side of the reel oposite the handle. This has numbers around the outside of it. Clockwise will add tension. The knob under the handle is the spool float knob for centering the spool.

You will see how fast the spool is running by simply putting the reel on your rod, attaching a weight to the line and releasing the spool. Now you can adjust it to slow it down and check the rate it drops at to see that your adjustments have worked.

It's going to take practise mate. Just try to be smooth and don't worry about sending the lead over the horizon for the first bit. When you get a bit of confidence to can loosen things off to get out further.
