Co, Sligo Garfish, September 28 th & October 8 th 2010......

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself

Duration: Sept 28th : 1.5 Hrs & Oct 8th : 1 Hr

Tide: Flood

Weather: 28th very wet & 8th windy

Bait: Limpets & Spinner

Results: Sept 28th: 2 Pollock, 4 Ballan, 1 Garfish, 1 Mackerel. Oct 8th: 2 Pollock, 4 Coalies, 3 Mackerel.

Report:

Sept 28th

Was Starting to get worried that I hadn’t caught a Garfish yet so on Tuesday morning I headed to a mark I seen a few at a couple of weeks ago where I caught a John Dory spinning so Packed the gear in to the car & drove to the mark.
It was raining nonstop making the rocks very slippery  I tied on the spinner & on the second cast hooked a Garfish which leapt into the air like a mini Marlin  Putting up a great fight, after a few minutes got her landed, Happy Days 8) A few pics & back she went, stayed spinning for another fifteen minutes or so but no joy the rest of the Garfish were playing hard to get  so I decided to move further down to another rock & try for a few Wrasse.
Stuck on a simple one hook rig loaded with small Limpets dropped down along the edge of the rock & within minutes was into what I thought was a good Wrasse when up came a nice Pollock  got her landed & tipped the scales at 5lb the biggest one I’ve caught on Limpets yet, re baited & picked up four Ballan Wrasse before going back to spinning for the llast ten minutes where I caught another Pollock & one Mackerel.

October 8th

Spur of the moment spinning session at the same rock mark as before started of slow but as the tide reached near high water the fish came on the feed, picked up some Coalies, Mackerel & Pollock around the 2lb mark, only one decent Pollock about that managed to bury itself in the kelp & get free but I'll be back!!!!!!!!!!!.

Well done Brian mate, super report and pictures. Congratulations on getting the garfish, they way the jump out of the water once you hook them is mental alright!! You described it perfectly - "A Mini Marlin" Nice wrasse and pollack too. Great results in two short sessions out. I'm glad that there is still some wrasse about because I know how much you like fishing for them. What about the mullet, is there still a few about or have most of them gone now?
