culdaff 7/10/10

#1 Post by Bigal »

People:me and two mates

Duration:5pm till 9pm

Tide:Rising

Weather:not bad

Bait:mack and lug

Rigs:float

Results: 1 x garfish and countless pollock and coalys

A mate phoned me to see if I would show him a new fishing mark as he normally fishes the north cost with not much luck. So I checked did the usual checks to pick the best mark for fishing and culdaff looked good. When we got there we decided on the rocks the left of the pier and fished there till it started to get dark. But when we where going back to the pier we saw we where cut off by the tide which I was very surprised at. We chucked our gear across the cap and waded in up to waist to get across with one of my mate slipping and going right under. We then fished the pier with the rest of the bait we had.

another example of why we should never turn our back on the sea.

was your mate not freezing fishing off the pier after taking a dunking?

Luckily he had a change of clothes with him. But numb nuts here didn't. I’ve fished that mark countless times with the same tides and sea state and have never seen it like that. So lesson learned never take the sea for granted

glad to hear it all ended well,,, i think i'd cack myself to discover our escape route was cut off by the tide   but then again,,,, so long as we had enough bait we'd probably fish the tide cycle out to low again  and that's a great result with the garfish, would love to get one of those. what bait did it take?
