That's as bad as,

"What do you call the angler that fell off the pier into the sea?"

"I was so bored I'd nearly nodded off, until I read this.

See http://www.mffc.gov.au/releases/2006/06003m.html

""The Democrats' private member's bill, the National Animal Welfare Bill 2005, will effectively outlaw recreational fishing, Federal Fisheries Minister, Senator Ian Macdonald warned today.

The bill, introduced by Democrats Senator Andrew Bartlett, proposes to outlaw the ""capture and killing of wild animals for the purpose of entertainment and sport"" which would effectively ban recreational fishing as well as other outdoor sports such as pig shooting.""

Want to bet all the Australian anglers will be writing to their politicians about this? Just note from the article how many anglers there are and what their nett worth to the economy is - and unless they speak now, they can forever hold their peace...

The stuff of nightmares!"

Pig shooting!

I have a mental image coming on... a cooler full of stubbies, rifles, BBQ... "never mind the yabbies, throw a few rashers on there Bruce"!

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks

I suppose if that bill was passed they'd just have to content themselves with the capture and shooting of tame animals for the purpose of entertainment and sport.....

Sandman - youre feeding my paranoia :D

Picture the scene........

Henry Gilbey is on the TV espousing the virtues of fishing in Ireland when we hear "Yibbida Yibbida Bushey, let me give that dinkum fish a big slobbery kiss before I put him back. Henry has to catch it in his programme in half an hour. It will need a bit of a swim before he gets his breath back".

I think I'll have to book my space on the beach before long!

Hadn't thought of that particular downside....

Like zebra mussels, any encroaching populations of Aussie fishing presenters should be reported to the CFB (if Pat the Cope hasn't complertely dismantled them) and stamped out by conservation-minded anglers everywhere....

In fairness. Rex and Bushy do put them back....

i thought people already went out and caught tame fish, trout "fisheries" and certain skate boats spring to mind. (never one not to be contentious!)
