Report:

i have just moved to Greenisland, so thought that i would give carrick harbour a go, saying as it is only 5 minutes down the road from the new house.

For those that don't know it, the harbour has quite a small entrance, which i reckoned would severely restrict the numbers of fish in the harbour itself, so I had planned beforehand to fish over the back wall to get into a bit of open water. However, when i got down there, I discovered that there was festoon lighting tied between every lampost along the harbour wall, so any kind of cast over the wall was out of the question. Not to be beaten, I went to the end of the pier with the intention of casting outside the harbour fron there, but the wind would have taken your head off!! so, I reverted to plan "C", which was to just fish inside the harbour and see what happened.

Had loads of knocks right from the start, but no hook ups, and on every retrieve on both the rods, the hooks were stripped. About an hour later, one of the baitrobbers showed its face in the shape of a 15 cm whiting. this was followed a while later by an even smaller one which had managed to get its jaws aroung a 1/0 hook. I packed up around midnight, because i only had rigs with 1/0 hooks out with me. However, I plan to tie up a few rigs with smaller hooks and maybe give it another bash at the weekend.

if anyone has any tips, please let me know!

some of the lads have good success down there, but sadly i'm not one of them as i've only had the same results as yourself  wee pouting and whiting seem to be the usual for that mark.
