Wreck Reel ?

Guys now that I have the inshore side of my set-up taken care of, I am looking for suggestions for a reel to be used while wreck fiishing.
At the start of the season the inshore species fishing is non-existant up around here, so we tend to use April and May as wreck trips. These trips can see you whinching up 3 fish at a time, mostly Pollack, Coalies, & ling around the 6lb mark, sometimes bigger , 3 of these can be a struggle on a penn 525.

Is there anything out there that is light but powerfull?

An ABU BG10000 - it's light and it will definitely pull that lot up for you.

hi i use diawa saltist 30 good strong reel i have used them on wrecks pulling 12 lb of pollock 2 and fish a time in the 5 to 6 lbs with ease i also use avet reels good strong reelsd will last for ever

An ABU BG10000 - it's light and it will definitely pull that lot up for you.

I had one and 2 seasons it was done not as good as the old Abu 10000c

If it was me and fishing Braid, I would opt for a Shimano Torium 14 or 16.

Have a penn 340GTi for the last 13 years it would lift the end of the wreck up

Get yourself a Penn 535 match it with a 12/20 or 15/20 rod and 30-40lb braid. Make sure the rod is at least over 7’ long.

I use this set up all the time, a 535 Penn filled with 33lb braid with about 10 feet of shock leader and a 7’8” 12/20 class rod.
Fished in depths of over 300ft with this set up
This year I've landed 2 specimen coalfish both over 18lb with it.


There is no bulling up a fish with that type of gear you will enjoy every second of the fight.

Remember sometimes the best fish you catch on a day out is the one that got away.

For what its worth "steyrman" has hit the nail on the head ... Saltist 30 or the 20's are excellant ... he's not a bad boat angler, he knows a thing or two
