well i was very disapointed with my last reel PENN SURFMASTER 750 it broke within 6 months first the drag system went then the switch for the gears went then the washer that holds the spool up from the body went and it tottally jammed. i i was hopeing for a year atleast.
so i am looking for a new good all round reel for rough ground and good for casting on the beach aswell. from £50-£150
any suggestions???

Re: FIXED SPOOL REEL FOR ROUGH GROUND AND CASTING
well, best fixed spool i found for the rough was a penn spinfisher, heavy old brutes, but virtually bombproof.
and the reels for any distance on the beach i wouldnt take near rough ground!
if you really want to do it go for the likes of a shimano ultegra 14000

As Phil says above, the Shimano is the business.
But if like me, you cant stretch that far, try the Daiwa Emcast range. Good value for the money and the 6000 size will cope with anything.

Re: FIXED SPOOL REEL FOR ROUGH GROUND AND CASTING
Good all-rounders like that are rare enough and there's inevitably a compromise. Might be better to get one reel for the rough and another for clean ground only? I got a surfmaster 750 a few years back and it was obvious straight away it was too delicate for any rough so its only been used on sand and it's still going OK.fagan wrote: so i am looking for a new good all round reel for rough ground and good for casting on the beach as well. from £50-£150
For the rough I use a 535 Mag, a horse and cart of a reel, great cranker, and with the big magnet it's hard enough to nest once you're used to it. In fact I'd use it more than the 525. Would you not try Taking the Soup and converting from FS?
