Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) was established on 1st July 2010 in accordance with the Inland Fisheries Act 2010 in place of the Central and 7 Regional Fisheries Boards. The 2010 Act sets out the authorities statutory obligations in relation to the protection, conservation, management, marketing, development and improvement of the inland fisheries resource in Ireland.
The legislation provides that the new authority must develop a 5 year rolling Corporate Plan for the new organisation within the first six months of its establishment. That Corporate Plan will define what the organisation will achieve in the next 5 years, how the objectives are to be achieved and how they are to be measured. In order to develop a Corporate Plan that is informed, realistic and compliant, IFI is now inviting submissions to the Public Consultation process from any individual, group or, associations who wish to actively contribute. The purpose of the consultation is to provide interested parties in the general public with an opportunity to comment on the future plan for IFI and to provide their views on the role and priorities for the organisation.
Submissions can be sent to Inland Fisheries Ireland by post or by email, to reach the organisation by no later than Friday 20th August 2010. The most efficient method of making submissions to IFI is by way of email to mary.oreilly@cfb.ie
Alternatively, responses can be posted to the following address:
Mary O’Reilly

Please include your name and contact details along with your submission. If you are putting forward a submission on behalf of an organisation please include contact details for the organisation.

IFI are responsible for sea angling in Ireland, not just freshwater angling.
With that in mind, how about sending in a few submissions re enforcing current legislation about Bass?

It would be a good idea for information on how to report anyone who are operating against this legislation, telephone numbers, email addresses etc.
Because I am pretty sure not everyone knows what or how they should go about it.
Or maybe get a sticky created or is this something that SAI would be able to do, seeing no actual information about the activities would be posted here, only information on how this information would be past to the right people.
I think it’s a matter of getting the right consistent information will have the best impact.

I sent in by email a submission this morning. It is very important that everybody who sent letters to the various ministers/politicians about the bass ban send a submission to this new body too. We need as many voices as possible lobbying for the good of bass to counter those commercial interests that would decimate the species. This body is certainly one we need working for us.

That's it lads/lassies - submit any idea or suggestion that you have. It doesn't matter how big or small or what species of fish it relates to.
Here we are (anglers) being given a chance to have our say and possibly an opportunity to have a tangible effect - so submit what you think.
The best of luck,
John D.

Many years ago there was also a thing called I.F.T Inland Fisheries Trust.
When the organization started to show its teeth regarding the ongoing pollution of Loch Sheelin and other places it was dismantled.
Clearly pressure came in from the Farming Community and Political tactics won out over conservation.
In that case the Pigs won out over the Fishermen and other people who understand we are just
stewards of what we see.
I dont hold out much hope for this new entity either.
Our political leaders continue to dabble instead of work.
Meanwhile the rivers are still being dredged, Flood plains back filled, and we still see fish kills from Silage run off.
The IFI run the serious risk of being labeled a Quango.
When I see words like 'protect' 'conserve' mixed in with 'Market' I conclude its just more window dressing and more jobs for the boys.
