Rosies Shark hunt Cork Harbour 28th august 2010

#1 Post by screeming reels »

Well, it was that time of year again to dust of the shark traces, Rosies boat club were holding there annual shark hunt fished out of cork harbour.
Three boats managed to turn up on a busy weekend in cork, and 8am we set off, we soon had a good few macks onboard and off we set to a position 4 miles south of the lings.
I had a new crewmember today, and it was his first time shark fishing, so the pressure was on to produce one for him. :?
It was not long after we had set up the slick, that we had our first run, and a good fight ensued, but as happens, the shark freed itself, by bitting through the 250lb mono leader, on went the all wire traces.
Another was soon on the rod, and this time he really had a good fight, and fair play to him he did play it very well, and we soon had the fish onboard, not a big fish, but his first, priceless :)
The wind started to freshen a good bit, but we mangaged to boat another 4 fish, biggest to 70lbs, and dropped a few more too, Highlight two of the day, was when robbie was recovering his bottom trace with a mackerel attached, and right beneath the boat a blue hit the mack and crashed dived, needles to say the line soon parted!! but was a thrill to see such argression.
This same senario happened to a couple of other boats too, so the sharks were really on the feed.
Back at the slip, the two other boats had also a great day, with some really big sharks being caught, with a good few over specimen weight, a total of 19 were caught between the three boats, and from what we were hearing on the FM, many more big shark were being caught.
A day to remember for robbie, as the picture shows!
regards
